ELEC 2141 - Programmable Logic Controllers Lab
4 Credits Prerequisites ELEC 1220
This course will consist of directed lab exercises with the expectation of correct program operation of a PLC. Students will learn RS Logix 500 and RS logix 5000 software to create, edit, and operate control programs for the micrologix and compactlogix family of processors. Students will also learn the factory talk view software to create application for the Allen Bradley family of operator interface terminals. In addition, students will study basic instrumentation and networking strategies assoiated with automation technologies.
Learning Outcomes Demonstrate how to configure the drivers necessary to communicate with a PLC. Describe the difference between a TON, TOF and RTO timer instruction and use them correctly in a program. Gain experience implementing industry controls using a micrologix or compactlogix PLC. Explain what a narrative description is and how it can be used to develop a PLC program. Describe the range of timers used in the micrologix and compact logix processors Describe the procedure to commission a PLC installation. Demonstrate how to create a tag data base for the compact logix processor.
