ELLW 1145 - Rope and Rigging
2 Credits Students will learn and practice knot tying and splicing. Also included are the study of rope characteristics, different uses of rope, and basic rigging techniques.
Learning Outcomes Identify character types of rope, proper application, tying of required knots and demonstrate rope splicing. Calculate working load limits, sling angles and mechanical advantage on rigging equipment, ropes, slings, chains and shackles. Demonstrate and apply working knowledge of hand lines, block and tackle, hot hoists, chain hoists, mechanical attachments and grip types. Identify, explain and demonstrate proper use of web slings, hoists, knots, grips, and blocks.
