ELLW 1175 - System Protection



2 Credits
General overview on the basic fundamentals of equipment used in Transmission and Distribution system protection. The objective of this course is to understand how protection systems function, how they protect the general public and utility employees,reduce damage to electrical equipment, and decrease duration and number of sustained outages.

Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate trouble shooting and system restoration.

Define system coordination and how devices work together.

Explain the use of each protective device and where it would be used.

Identify specific electrical protective equipment used on transmission and distribution equipment,

Explain how protective devices reduce outages, duration of outages, and amount of system damage.

Demonstrate the use of protective devices for personal protection during live line maintenance.
