HCEM 2115 - Transmissions

This is a technical course designed to promote understanding of powershift transmissions used in heavy equipment industry. Theory related to powershift transmissions, torque converters, and manual transmissions. In addition, fundamental principles ofhydraulics, gear ratios, disassembly, assembly and adjustment procedures are covered.

Learning Outcomes
Explain standard type transmissions.

Explain the operation of directional and speed clutches explain planetary gearing perform stall test.

Explain planetary transmission power flows and relate powershift transmission operation.

Demonstrate use of specialized tools to troubleshoot an electronic transmission.

Analyze operation of torque converter and assemble torque converter.

Calibrate an electronic transmission.

Identify and inspect torque converter components.

Identify gear types, describe fluid flows.

Identify types of transmission fluids.

Test and adjust powertrain pressures, converter, lube, main pressures.

Disassemble powershift planetary transmission and assemble planetary powershift transmission.

Inspect planetary transmission parts

Display shop safety.
