HIST 1100 - History of the United States to 1877
4 Credits This course surveys U.S. History from before European contact through 1877. Topics covered include indigenous peoples, exploration, colonial times, the American Revolution, the early republic, growth of democracy, changing roles of women, territorial expansion, slavery, Civil War and Reconstruction.
Learning Outcomes Develop skills on writing historical essays. Analyze primary and secondary sources. Explore multiple perspectives on historical issues in the US history prior to 1877. Connect themes through time from discovery through reconstruction. Survey the major political and social events of the United States from before European discovery and settlement through 1877.
