IETA 1800 - Mechanical Fundamentals 2

3 Credits
Prerequisites IETA 1300

This course moves beyond the basics in the Mechanical Fundamentals 1 course, to more advanced topics such as how lubricants and bearings can impact and maintain mechanical systems, vibration testing that allows the forecasting of potential issues, as well as how to properly align equipment shafts, which will also help prolong equipment life.  Students are also introduced to different types of mechanical drives and how they affect mechanical system performance.

Learning Outcomes
Assemble and disassemble different types of mechanical drive systems.

Practice checking and adjusting flexible belt tensions.

Summarize how bearings reduce friction in mechanical systems.

Perform coupling and shaft alignment.

Perform vibration analysis testing.

Describe the importance of lubrications in mechanical systems.
