IDES 2111 - Materials and Estimating
4 Credits This course provides students with information that will allow them to establish a systematic approach to selecting materials for interior environments. Students will also create specifications for interior materials, emphasizing code requirements and testing standards. Environmental issues and concerns in relation to the product materials will be addressed. Textiles and their use in residential and commercial interiors are presented. Students will learn the appropriate estimating techniques toetermine accurate material amounts for any given job. The overall appropriateness and manufacturing process combined with the use of materials for walls, floors and ceilings will be emphasized.
Learning Outcomes Learn about different materials for all surfaces and demonstrate how to choose the best material for the projects cost. Demonstrate the understand on how to apply national codes, local codes, and LEED certifications to material choices Demonstrate how to put together an estimate for an entire interior design project. Write Construction document specifications for all types of materials, furniture, textiles, and fixtures as they apply to interior design.
