This course expands on the skills learned in MDAS 1125 Laboratory Skills I. The student will participate in waived and moderately complex laboratory collection and testing in the areas of chemistry, immunology, microbiology, hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis. Students will also learn how to apply a Holter Monitor and perform electrocardiography.
Major Content Areas Proper specimen collection Hematology, immunology, microbiology, chemistry, urinalysis, and coagulation areas of the laboratory and the testing in these areas Proper laboratory testing Holter monitor Electrocardiography Quality control CLIA-waived and moderately complex laboratory testing
Learning Outcomes Collect laboratory specimens. Explain proper laboratory sample collection. Perform CLIA-waived chemistry, hematology, immunology, coagulation, microbiology, and urinalysis testing. Relate common laboratory tests to disease processes. Perform quality control Perform moderately complex microbiology testing. Complete laboratory documentation. Perform electrocardiography. Display professionalism.
