MCAP 1000 - Introduction to MCAP
3 Credits This course introduces students to the fundamentals of automotive and electrical and electronic systems. Students will learn about electrical theory and electrical diagnostic strategy using the DVOM. Students will learn about shop safety procedures, how to use vehicle service information, and how to use general shop tools and equipment as they relate to electrical/electronic service and repair.

Learning Outcomes Understand basic electrical theory, test electrical circuits by utilizing automotive diagnostic tools including a DVOM, analyze results, and determine necessary actions in accordance with ASE standards. Demonstrate knowledge and application of Ohm’s law and Watt’s law. And be able to explain the difference between series, parallel and series parallel circuits. Understand how to locate and interpret related service information to properly diagnose and repair automotive electrical circuits in accordance with ASE standards. Demonstrate the proper use of general shop tools and equipment in compliance with current industry standards. Demonstrate compliance with current automotive industry safety, environmental, and professionalism standards. Students will understand the importance of safety in the workplace. (SP2 Certification.) Students will understand the importance of pollution prevention. (SP2 Certification.) Students will be registered for and learn how to navigate the learning resources used in the program.
