SOCY 1210 - Social Issues Changing World

This class uses a sociological perspective to analyze global issues that threaten human well-being. Topics may include poverty, educational inequality, political violence, racial and ethnic inequality, gender inequality, health disparities, unsustainable food systems, environmental destruction, and human trafficking. Special attention is given to the how policies and practices in the United States impact these global issues for better or worse.

Learning Outcomes
Apply sociological theories to specific, current global issues. Identify evidence-based solutions to specific global issues. Explain globalization from a sociological perspective. Compare and contrast the political and economic role of the United States with other countries, related to specific global issues. Analyze their personal responsibilities as a global citizen. Describe the nature and extent of multiple forms of global inequality.
