Prerequisites COMS 1020 , ENGL 1150 , BIOL 1450 , HEAL 1502

Co-Requisites VTEC 1001

This course instructs the student in the various mathematical calculations and equations used on a daily basis in the medical field. Students will learn calculations involving percentages, fractions, decimals, and ratios, how to convert between different measurement systems, how to calculate patient medication and fluid dosages, and how to apply these methods to real world scenarios.

Learning Outcomes
Understand how to read, interpret, and properly utilize syringes of different calibration (accuracy), medication labels, fluid administration sets, and fluid or syringe pumps

Be able to identify and perform calculations and conversions using numbers in fraction, decimal, ratio, proportion, percentage, and scientific notation format, and be able to utilize different measurement systems

Effectively analyze problems and perform required calculations and conversions for dosing of medications, determination of anesthesia gas flow rates, nutritional feeding recommendations, essential radiology equations, fluid administration, and dilution of concentrated solutions
