ARCT 1520 - Building Codes and Regulations
3 Credits The goal of this class is to provide you with a fundamental understanding of the International Building Code (IBC), the Americans with Disabilities Act and Energy Codes. The class emphasizes Health, Safety, Welfare (HSW) topics such as: building codes, fire codes, accessibility issues, and environmental issues. Prerequisites: Prior to, or currently enrolled in, ARCT 1500 , ARCT 1208 and ARCT 1540 . **This course is cross listed with IDES 1520 **
Learning Outcomes Determine the requirements for locations and amounts of means of egress lighting and signage
Application of basic health, safety and welfare (HSW) topics such as egress, occupancy, ADA & energy codes using a sample project and code analysis.
Case study of exemplary buildings that have been designed and constructed using sustainable building regulations and programs such as LEED, B3 and others.
Demonstration of ability to find and apply code requirements to real-world conditions, including violations in existing building.
