AUTM 2027 - Automotive Suspension Systems
3 Credits This course teaches suspension systems using leaf springs, coil springs, McPherson struts, and torsion bars. Steering systems using manual and power rack and pinion, recirculating ball steering gears. Alignment angles and their relationship to vehicle handling.
Learning Outcomes Complete work order to include customer information, vehicle identification information, customer concerns information, cause and correction of customer concern. Perform maintenance and repair operations to vehicle suspension systems in accordance with ASE standards. Measure wheel, tire, axle and hub runout; perform tire and wheel service and repairs. Demonstrate compliance with current automotive industry safety and environmental standards. Research applicable vehicle and service information such as suspension and steering system, operations, vehicle maintenance components, service precaution and technical service bulletins. Identify the suspension and steering components and interpret suspension and steering adjustments to obtain alignment specifications. Determine proper power steering fluids and leaks and diagnostic procedures related to customer concerns and proper actions to repair.
