IDES 1207 - Residential Studio I

his course covers the skills necessary to design both public and private interior spaces in a home. The interior design process will be applied, with an emphasis on the design development phase (refining the design concept and focusing on design details). Sustainable design principles for housing will be introduced, including industry rating systems. Students will investigate furnishings, lighting and finish material sources in progressively complex residential interior design projects. Students must take IDES 1208 , IDES 1241 and IDES 2111 prior to or concurrently with this course.
Learning Outcomes
Examine the needs for public and private spaces in both single family and multifamily residential.
Create a space plan for an entire residential space using a critical design process of diagrams and adjacencies.
Implement the presentation skills from Presentation Techniques l and ll to create a comprehensive residential presentation.
Research and evaluate appropriate furniture, fabric, and surface materials and create material and finish presentation boards for a residential client.
