MCAP 1102 - Vehicle Communications

Students in this course will be exposed to complex automotive electronics and computer-controlled circuits. Operation, diagnosis, and repair of vehicle communication networks will be studied using various types of tools and test equipment.

Learning Outcomes Students will be able to use automotive diagnostic tools to access vehicle computer networks, instrumentation and warning systems, and infotainment systems to monitor and diagnose vehicle electronic circuit faults. Students will be able to locate appropriate service information in order to identify, test and diagnosis vehicle communication network faults. Students will be able to test the operation of automotive electrical, electronic, computer, and accessory circuits and determine necessary action. Students will demonstrate an understanding of how automotive computer circuits function and be able to test electronic components for proper operation. Students will be able to explain the difference between computer inputs and outputs and how they can be interpreted to diagnose computer circuit related faults.
