MCAP 1301 - Engine Mechanical

Prerequisites MCAP 1000 

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of engine mechanical operation, diagnosis and repair. Students will learn about engine theory and engine mechanical diagnostic strategy using various diagnostic tools. Students will learn about engine repair and safety procedures, how to use vehicle service information, and how to use diagnostic tools including scan tools and oscilloscopes in troubleshooting engine mechanical concerns.

Learning Outcomes
Perform diagnosis and repair operations on automotive engines in accordance with ASE standards

Perform diagnosis and repair operations on automotive valve train components in accordance with ASE standards.

Demonstrate compliance with current automotive industry safety and Environmental standards

Establish automotive engine mechanical timing as well as diagnosis and repair of related components in accordance with ASE standards.

Perform diagnosis and repair operations on automotive cylinder heads in accordance with ASE standards.

Describe internal engine operation, test condition utilizing automotive diagnostic tools in accordance with ASE standards.

Perform compression, cylinder leakage, exhaust backpressure, intake vacuum, cylinder power balance, relative compression, and in-cylinder pressure tests, analyze results, and determine necessary actions in accordance with ASE standards.
