MCAP 1303 - Hybrid and EV Systems
3 Credits Prerequisites MCAP 1000
This course will focus on hybrid and electric vehicle operation, diagnosis, and repair. Students will understand the principles behind electric propulsion and high voltage storage systems, proper safety precautions, and how to accurately diagnose these systems used on hybrid and electric vehicles.

Learning Outcomes Understand hybrid and electric vehicle theory and operation, analyze symptoms related to hybrid and electric system components, perform pinpoint tests, analyze results, and determine necessary actions in accordance with ASE standards. Demonstrate compliance with current automotive industry safety and environmental standards. Understand the purpose of scan tools and oscilloscopes in diagnosing hybrid electric vehicle system components and demonstrate proper procedure to navigate the scan tool and oscilloscope to obtain signal information in accordance with ASE standards. Diagnose the cause of electric vehicle and hybrid engine performance concerns and failures in accordance with ASE standards. Access and utilize service information to perform a step-by-step diagnostic procedure.
