Program Outcomes

To prepare competent entry-level medical assistants in the cognitive (knowledge), Psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.

Successfully pass the national certification exam to achieve the CMA(AAMA) credential.

Gain experience in medical office protocol which will prepare the graduate to work as part of the health care team.

Accreditation

The Medical Assistant diploma program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).

Additional Information

This program has additional costs for equipment and practicum requirements and has specific admission requirements. Employment in this field typically requires successful completion of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) certification exam.

This is a suggested sample course sequence. Please contact your program advisor regarding your academic plans.

First Year - Summer Session: 7 Credits


Second Year - Fall Semester: 9 Credits


Second Year - Spring Semester: 9 Credits


Total Program Requirements: 60


Students starting the program part-time can do so by taking HEAL 1101 HEAL 1502  and MDAS 1151 . HEAL 1101  and HEAL 1502  are offered year-round. MDAS 1151  is only offered in the fall and spring semester.

Medical Assistant students are required to obtain a C or higher on all MDAS, HEAL 1101 , and general education courses.

Laboratory Skills I and Clinical Procedures I are only offered fall semester. Laboratory Skills II, Clinical Procedures II, and Pharmacology are only offered spring semester. Practicum and Capstone are only offered summer session.

*Evening hybrid students need to take MDAS 1211  first year summer session.
