ELEC 1240 - Construction Skills and Introduction to Wiring Lab

Prerequisites ELEC 1130 , ELEC 1137 , ELEC 1139
This course covers lab experiences in material and design of residential wiring, wiring methods, selection of proper fastening devices, sizing of wiring boxes, branch circuit requirements, and use of blueprints.
Learning Outcomes
Choose what box orientation is the most efficient layout for the construction wiring. Employ knowledge of overcurrent protection devices, correctly sized boxes, and correct wiring methods to different residential environments. Gain the knowledge and skill to use hand tools and operate power tools in the electrical field. Gain knowledge on how to illustrate wiring diagrams and schematics. Apply the proper use of personal protective equipment. Knowledge of electrical and tool safety and how to apply that knowledge in the lab area and to construction sites. Operate tools used for residential wiring Practice techniques of terminating conductors to devices in lab area. Recognize that wiring performed in the lab is comparable to how their own home is wired. Apply the guidelines of the National Electrical Code to perform proper and correct wiring methods in different aspect of a residential dwelling.
